With humor, camaraderie, and a playful “Grand Champion Mistake” award, this session celebrates transparency and resilience. Come ready to laugh, connect, and leave with practical insights—and the reminder that you’re not alone.
Session Information
Format: Regular session/panel (roundtable, single speaker, etc.)
Uniqueness: By blending humor, vulnerability, and peer learning, this session creates a rare space for openly sharing mistakes—turning missteps into collective insight, connection, and professional growth.
Objectives:
By the end of this session, participants will be able to identify and reframe professional mistakes as valuable learning opportunities rather than failures. Through shared storytelling and guided reflection, attendees will gain strategies for analyzing what went wrong, why it happened, and how similar situations can be improved in the future.
Participants will also develop practical skills for fostering a culture of openness and psychological safety within their organizations. By engaging in peer discussion and feedback, they will learn approaches to encourage transparent communication, reduce stigma around mistakes, and support colleagues in navigating challenges constructively.
Finally, attendees will leave with actionable tools and frameworks—such as reflective prompts and facilitation techniques—that can be applied in their own institutions. These resources will help them lead similar conversations with staff or teams, ultimately strengthening collaboration, resilience, and continuous improvement across their organizations.
Engagement: Participants will engage in interactive storytelling, small-group conversations, and live polls to share and reflect on museum mishaps. Facilitators will guide discussion with prompts and simple frameworks that help turn mistakes into learning opportunities. Attendees will exchange peer feedback, collaborate in a supportive environment, and take part in selecting a “Grand Champion Mistake.” They will leave with practical tools and strategies to encourage transparency, strengthen team culture, and approach challenges with greater confidence and resilience.
